Saint Agatha, patroness saint of breast cancer, earthquakes and natural disasters, is represented in this 18th century Spanish colonial plaque with her excised breasts on a platter. Carved and polychrome painted wood with elaborate 'estofado' gold work throughout.
Condition: paint loss, period surface chips.
